Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany 1 February 2009

May you be embraced by God,
in whom dawn and twilight are one
and may your longing inhabit
its deepest dreams
within the shelter of the Great Belonging.

Back to School
We hold in prayer all those who return to school this week… and those who begin school….
Teachers, Students and Parents…… May they all be valued as they share their wisdom and may all seek peace and wholeness as they explore and discover the knowledge that gives us an opportunity to find our fullness…..

Glory be to you, O God,
For the gift of life
Unfolding through those who have
gone before me.
Philip Newell, Celtic Benediction

Collect
Holy One... source of eternal faithfulness..
We delight in the gift of grace and the wonder of Love
And we seek the Divine wisdom that is the source of all life
In Christ... our demons are brought to silence...
And from the stillness we hear the Divine voice.
Together we seek that same voice in each other...
A voice of thanksgiving that glorifies God
Amen

Give thanks for all who share their gifts with others. Give thanks for the beauty that is around us and within us. Pray that we may know ourselves as the abiding place of the Divine. Pray for each other, and for all who know pain, anxiety, loneliness and conflict. Pray for those whose hands we hold and for those in whose hands we are held. Give thanks for the promise of life and life in abundance.. Pray for those who dwell in shadows, make us wise and faithful friends who carry a lamp to them.. Give thanks for those who are our elders and for the stories that they pass on. Give thanks that we have freedom to live and pray that we may bring freedom to others. Pray for our continued participation in God’s creative purpose. Give thanks for those who create peace and who are not afraid...For refugees and asylum seekers and all who offer them hospitality. Pray that we may know ourselves as the abiding place of the Divine.

May the blessing of light be upon you,
light without and light within.
May the blessed sunlight shine upon you
and warm your heart
till it glows like a great fire
and strangers may warm themselves,
as well as friends.
And may the light shine out of the eyes of you,
like a candle set in the window of a house,
bidding the wanderer to come in
out of the storm

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.

ADVENT Liturgy
We invite young ones from the community to join in lighting the ADVENT Candle – and together Pray for the LOVE that it represents

A candle is burning, a flame warm and bright,
A candle of Hope in December’s dark night.
While angels sing blessings from heaven’s starry sky,
Our hearts we prepare now, for Jesus is nigh.
A candle is burning, a candle of Peace,
A candle to signal that conflict must cease:
For Jesus is coming to show us the way;
A message of peace humbly laid in the hay.
A candle is burning, a candle of Joy,
A candle to welcome brave Mary’s new boy.
Our hearts fill with wonder, and eyes light and glow
Like sun in the garden that makes the plants grow.
A candle is burning, a candle of love,
A candle to point us to heaven above.
A baby for Christmas, a wonderful birth,
For Jesus is bringing God’s love to our earth.

We acknowledge our oneness as we join in the chorus (in Italics) of the Advent anthem that names the coming of the Divine

O come, o come Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lowly exile here, until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O Rod of Jesse’s stem, from every foe deliver them
that trust your mighty power to save, and give them victory o’er the grave
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O Dayspring from on high; and cheer us by your drawing nigh
Dispense the gloomy clouds of night, and death’s dark shadows put to flight
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
